Description

Main image is of a 5 year old aloe. The three pups are roughly a year old. All my plants come from an organic garden free from commercial fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides (NO Roundup), or other environmental hazards. Free plants included, up to five different varieties. Aloe vera has been used for centuries as a topical skin treatment. Common in Indian and Southeast Asian cuisines, aloe can also be eaten, either cooked or raw. The pale green "skin" of the stalks hides the clear "meat" inside the leaves, as well as the natural gel the plant produces, both of which are edible. It is rich in vitamins C and E and beta carotene (a pre-cursor to vitamin A), Aloe may have some anti-ageing qualities. Its anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties, and its ability to lighten blemishes, also help it take years off your face. Aloe is a member of the Lily family, yet it is very cactus-like in appearance. Even though there are over 240 species of Aloe there is only four recognized as having nutritional value. The aloe leaf contains over 75 nutrients and 200 active compounds, including 20 minerals, 18 amino acids, and 12 vitamins makes for a high quality Aloe Drink. You only use the nutritious inner gel - not the outer rind of the leaf. Adding Aloe Vera to a smoothy or vegetable juice is one of the most nutritious drinks you can have. Harvest the older outer leaves first and use to soothe skin problems and put a small amount in smoothies or fruit or vegetable juices.
